1. Method Climbing Gym
The first rock climbing gym in the heart of Newark, Method Climbing Gym is located at the luxury apartment Walker House and opened in early 2020. This indoor rock climbing NJ is a 22,000 square feet climbing facility in the basement, but don’t be fooled, it can go as tall as 15 to 27 feet high.
Aside from the weight training gym, 8 auto belays, a Moonboard, and a Kilterboard, there are over 100 boulder problems to choose from, where sections of the spacious bouldering wall are resetted 3 times a week. You have a maximum of one month’s time to send that project!
Strategically located a couple blocks away from Newark Museum and Newark Broad Street station, it is the perfect place to be for a lunch break, after-work activities, or even a quick climb before you head to the airport!
For first-timers, you can get a two-week introductory unlimited climbing pass which also includes free rental gear, a free introduction to climbing course, and all-day access to their fitness area for an affordable price of $ 50. You can’t get a better deal than this elsewhere.
However, parking can be a slight hassle here. You can park either in the IDT Parking garage at $ 7.25 for 4 hours or utilize the free street parking around Washington Park and Halsey St (after 6 pm) or Division St.

2. New Jersey Rock Gym
Faced with a super overhang lead wall, roof bouldering climbing, and 12,000 square feet of climbing space: you will know that this is the place to be to bring your climbing game.
New Jersey Rock Gym has been around for more than 25 years since its opening in 1995. It was one of the first rock climbing gyms to appear on the East Coast and in 2021, they were forced to shut down like many other businesses during the pandemic.
Thankfully, this rock climbing gym NJ has been revived by a new management team that brings in fun weekly specials such as a Buy One Get One pass on Wednesdays. With revamped walls and newer holds, this state-of-the-art gym does not feel like a 25-year-old location!
You will feel right at home with their friendly instructors and community. The auto belay walls are beginner-friendly so if you will like to get some airtime, it is best to head to that section.
Note: Jesse Grupper, a USA competitive climber, has been climbing in this gym since he was 6!

3. The Gravity Vault – Upper Saddle River
If there is a rock climbing gym that is monopolizing the Garden state, it is the Gravity Vault. In New Jersey alone, there are 8 The Gravity Vault outlets in total, with two more outlets coming soon to Princeton and Edison.
The Gravity Vault New Jersey gym first broke ground in 2004 at its Upper Saddle River location. Today, they are also a rock climbing franchising team with gyms on the West and East Coast.
A homey rock climbing gym with old-school walls, it has over 19,000 square feet of sport climbing and bouldering facility. The Gravity Vault in Upper Saddle is one of the most holistic indoor rock climbing NJ gyms that covers all areas of competitive climbing. Here are the many routes you can find:

Located inside Strand Tennis Center, The Gravity Vault Chatham is the brand’s 2nd location. This spacious 15,000-square-foot gym has everything you need for your climbing regime:
- 6 auto-belays
- 90+ problem in the bouldering area
- 120 roped-climbing routes that includes top-rope and lead climbing on 40 feet walls
- LED Moonboard and Kilterboardon
- a small weightlifting space that includes dumbbells, treadmills, rowers, and other equipment to supplement your climbing training
Chatham is known for its clean environment and friendly staff. Albeit its old-school man-made walls, the solid route setting makes up for it.

5. The Gravity Vault – Hoboken
At the corner of Clinton St and 15th St is a nice rock climbing facility to hang out especially during the cold winter seasons. With a whopping 25,000 square feet of space, it is the perfect after-work activity whether you plan to climb solo or with your work colleagues.
The walls go up to 40 feet, with beautiful lighting and structure for great visibility when climbing. There are over 200 roped routes, 120 bouldering problems with top-out boulders, and 10 auto belays for any endurance climbing. Not forgetting their speed walls, Moonboard, and weights area to supplement your training.
Prices here are slightly expensive compared to the other NJ rock climbing gyms as Hoboken is a bustling city located across Manhattan, New York.
In terms of grading, I will say that there are enough routes for every difficulty level. Both beginner and advanced climbers will have a lot of fun here and who knows, you may end up making this indoor rock climbing NJ facility your second home!

6. The Gravity Vault – Montclair
Congrats Montclair, you have The Gravity Vault’s only bouldering facility! Whatever you are looking for in bouldering, they have it in this 12,000-square-foot bouldering facility. Whether it’s hangboards, Kilterboards, campus boards, Moonboards, or a functional training area, they have it all along with their 16 feet climbing walls with over 120 bouldering problems.
This gym also caters to kids aged 7 and up, with a fun route setting and bright-colored walls. The management team is super friendly and will go all out to cater to any needs or questions you may have about climbing! I strongly recommend you to come here, especially if you have an affinity for bouldering.
You can get discounted parking here as well at South Fullerton Parking Plaza next to the gym. Gravity Vault will provide a validation sticker that allows you to park at a special price of $ 1 per hour for the first 3 hours.

7. The Gravity Vault – Middletown
The Gravity Vault Middletown outlet is a 14, 000 square feet NJ rock climbing gym with “old school” walls and holds that mimic traditional climbing gyms with its colorful tapes on holds to label routes. Opened in 2014, it has over 55 top rope lanes, 80 bouldering problems, auto-belays, and lead walls with an arch. It has recently been renovated so expect a cleaner space with twice the fun!
Kids, beginners, and experts are more than welcomed to climb here with their friendly and supportive staff and great routesetting. So if you are a climber who climbs between 5.9 to 5.11, you will do just fine here with more than enough routes for progression.

8. The Gravity Vault – Flemington
Get a top-notched climbing experience at The Gravity Vault in Flemington where there are routes for all skill levels with friendly staff to support you in every step.
This 17,500 square feet facility has 70 roped lanes with a 40-feet lead wall, 7 auto-belays and 5,800 square feet of bouldering area with 17-feet walls and standing boulders, a Tension board, and a weightlifting section. They reset each week so you will always find something new to challenge yourself.
Unlike most gyms, the Flemington outlet has kept things organized with the boulder section at the first floor and the kids section in a far-off area so there won’t be a risk of kids running around in the gym and causing a hazard.
This Flemington location organizes some super fun events such as Locked In The Vault where you can climb from morning until 1:30 am with breakfast and dinner included! I can’t ask for a better way to spend my entire day climbing.

9. The Gravity Vault – Brick
If you are an early-riser and love Mondays, then you will be pleased to know that the Gravity Vault Brick outlet has extended hours with a 7 am opening time on Monday.
Here you have 16,000 square feet of climbing and bouldering, over 70 roped lanes including lead, a 10-meter speed wall, and 6 auto belay routes. With new top rope routes every Friday and new boulders every Monday, you will never get bored climbing here. The bouldering area is much smaller compared to the other gyms but is still fun nonetheless.
Want to meet the queer climber community? Gravity Vault at Brick has fun events such as “Gay On Belay” to meet and network with peers and have fun together. They have yoga classes free for members to unwind and train your strength and flexibility.

10. The Gravity Vault – Voorhees
Marching into the South Jersey terrain is The Gravity Vault in Voorhees.
Although not as eventful compare to outlets like Brick, this outlet has some of the best top routes along with a nice bouldering space with over 60 problems. There is also 5 auto belay lanes and a lead area.
I recommend coming to Voorhees if you are looking for a location that is great for birthday parties, kids, and anyone who prefers roped climbing.

11. Diamond Rock Gym
Diamond Rock Gym at East Hanover is part of Diamond City Sports, a state-of-the-art training gym that accommodates mainly for young kids and teenagers on the fundamentals of gymnastic. Hence, they have a wide variety of courses and classes that focuses on body movement with ninja training courses, rock climbing, and gymnastics as well as summer camps.
This location caters rock climbing for kids. It is also a great place for birthday parties, gatherings, and any team building event. With 6 auto-belay systems, 55 top-rope routes grade 5.3 to 5.11c , and a bouldering area with over 12 problems up to grade V4, it’s perfect for any group that wants something fun rather than challenging.
However, you can’t walk-in to this place to climb as every session is by appointment only. It is best to call them to check if they are open or fully-booked. Pet peeve alert: climbers will be using their normal street shoes to scale the walls.
If you are climbing alone, you can opt for an auto-belay pass which is $ 20 for a day pass and $ 15 for one-hour. Personally, it is quite a small gym so 1 hour is more than enough time to explore them all.
Note: there is a “Free Solo” boulder problem here to try out!

12. Randolph Climbing Center
One of the OG rock climbing spots in New Jersey, Randolph Climbing Center has been hosting climbers for more than 20 years.
With 26 top rope walls, 4 auto belay systems and over 100 routes, there is something for everyone in this spacious and friendly gym. They have updated their venue with an upstairs bouldering area so you can climb without distractions.
If you like a welcoming environment, then Randolph Climbing Center offers exactly what you need. The staff here are super friendly and hospitable and climbing feels more like an enjoyable sport rather than a competitive one.
There are also special promotion nights from Monday to Thursday including BOGO days, Ladies Night, Beginner Night, and College Night. It’s a deal not to be missed!

13. High Exposure Rock Climbing, Ninja Warrior & Parkour
Have you always wanted to go to a Clip n Climb-style facility? What about a two-in-one facility that includes a traditional indoor climbing gym?
At High Exposure in Northvale, you will get exactly that. Open to kids and serious climbers, it’s a ninja warrior gym heaven in this 26,000 square feet facility. Aside from an obstacle course, you will also get:
- over 75 roped routes that includes top-roped and sports lead climbing
- a 12-meter speed wall
- over 25 auto belay lanes
- a bouldering cave with a great incline and V0 to V12
To cater to the working adults, High Exposure has dedicated an Adults-Only climbing session to destress. From Monday to Thursdays at 7:30 pm to 10 pm, you get to climb in peace at the top rope and bouldering session. There are also discounted late-night passes for $ 18 from 8 pm to 10 pm (weekdays except for Friday).

14. GOAT Climbing Gym
We have a new gym in town and it is GOAT Climbing Gym!
Launched in 2022, it has by far the most impressive lead walls (possibly in the tri-state!) with 40 to 60 ft-high walls made by Entre-prises, the official Olympic climbing walls manufacturer. It also has an international-standard dual speed climbing wall perfect for national and state training.
With two competitive bouldering walls, a training area that overlooks the beautiful Manhattan, and friendly staff, it is the best indoor climbing gym NJ has to offer. Boulder routes are regular resetted every Monday and Tuesday whereas the roped routes are resetted every Thursday and Friday.
For first-timers, get ready for a 30-minute orientation as this gym prioritizes safety heavily. You will be provided with a one-hour guided climb for $ 60 that allows you to try speed, bouldering, and top-roped climbing and includes rentals. If you will like to climb longer, it’s an additional $ 15 for all-day climbing.

15. ClimbZone
Looking for a fun and vibrant climbing location that is perfect for kids and birthday parties? Then check out ClimbZone Howell NJ where you can climb 68 different thematic walls. It does feel like a magical place as each wall has its unique background such as Mount Rushmore-styled walls, vertical basketball courts, snakes and ladders.
If you are looking for a safe “rock climbing for kids” location, you should visit ClimbZone as anyone aged 2 and above are allowed to scale these walls with adult supervision. All climbers will be latched onto an auto-belay system to climb safely and independently.
There is a time limit to climbing: you can climb for a maximum of 2 hours for the price of $ 35.99, including all equipment rentals and the Sky Trails rope course that challenges your fear of heights from 30 feet high. This spacious and clean place is worth the drive!

16. Garden State Rocks
Aside from the quirky pun, Garden State Rocks is another close contender as one of the best NJ indoor rock climbing gyms. With new management, this cozy gym has transformed its walls with new paint and better holds.
This air-conditioned facility has over 6,000 square feet of climbable area with 25 to 30-feet-high climbing walls of top-rope and lead routes. For the boulderers, you will definitely spend hours here with their technical routes at the bouldering island, a bouldering cave area, and a Tension board.
This bouldering-focused gym still uses tapes to differentiate climbing routes, so for newer climbers, this is something for you to take note. The routesetting ranges from beginner to advanced, with a number of technical routes, finger cracks, and a chimney section.

17. Rockville Climbing Center Inc
A convenient gym located in Central Jersey, Rockville Indoor Climbing Center is one of the longest established gyms in town (as you can tell by the man-made walls).
With 19 auto-belays, a number of top-rope, lead, and bouldering sections, it offers plenty of unique and challenging routes for all climber levels.
The only downside is this place does not reset frequently compared to the other gyms in NJ but it’s honestly hard to finish all of them in one session.
For first-timers, you can use purchase a Just Climb package to get started on their auto-belay system which includes a day climbing pass and equipment rentals. It’s $ 30 for adults and $ 28 for juniors aged 12 and under.

18. Elite Climbing, LLC
Located between Cherry Hill and Moorestown mall, Elite Climbing is the first indoor climbing NJ gym in South Jersey. There are over 100 routes on the top-rope and bouldering section, with walls of various incline levels to challenge your climbing skills. There are also lead climbing and outdoor classes available.
If you are a family interested to climb, then this gym will suit your needs as it is kid and family-friendly so you can watch your little ones scale the walls with minimal risk.
For first-timers, you can choose between 3 packages: Basic, Silver, and Gold.
The Basic package is $ 45 which includes a brief belay class, a day pass (includes gear rentals), and 2 weeks of unlimited climbing (exclude gear rentals).
The Silver package is $ 65 which includes the Basic package, 1-hour belay course, and 1-hour fundamentals technique course and 2 weeks of unlimited climbing including rentals.
The Gold package is an extension of the silver package with a 2-hour fundamentals technique course and 1 month of unlimited climbing including rentals.
If you are curious about climbing but not ready to commit long-term to this indoor rock climbing NJ gym, the Silver package is the most ideal for its courses and all-inclusive access to gear rentals.

19. Kinetic Climbing
Kinetic Climbing is a family-owned rock climbing gym located inside Williamstown Shopping Center. It is one of the 3 South Jersey rock climbing gyms and also New Jersey’s first bouldering-only facility.
With 16 feet Walltopia walls, a clean spacious environment, and friendly staff, it is definitely a joy to climb for kids and adults alike.
To differentiate the difficulty of each route, they are marked by alphabets E, M, H, indicating that they are easy, medium, or hard along with V grades.
I like how Kinetic Climbing NJ keeps their community on their toes with special deals on certain occassions (like $ 10.75 Friday day passes) and fun themes that include a beer celebration. If you are looking for a fun and vibrant gym, drop by Kinetic Climbing!

If you are a member of Life Time Fitness, you are in luck as there are two outlets in New Jersey that have a rock wall for you to climb!
Life Time Fitness is a luxury athletic resort in New Jersey. Think about five-star facilities, abundance of high-quality aerobic classes, a swimming pool, and bootcamps, and that is Life Time Fitness for you.
Within this humungous facility is a rock wall dedicated to both kids and adults alike. However, this is not a full-time rock climbing gym as the wall is opened for only selected hours.
Hence, if you are just looking for a place to climb, there are better places than this. However, if you intend to have a one-day or monthly membership to explore the rest of the facilities, then this rock climbing location is a bonus.

Both kids and adults can climb, and if that isn’t enough, you can participate in their ninja and aerial rope activity course for a total price of $ 25 for 2 hours.

Located at The College Avenue Gym at Rutgers University, the Rock Wall is a 2,200-square feet climbing facility that are beginner-friendly with over 35 routes graded from 5.4 to 5.13.
They have 17 top rope stations and an overhang bouldering wall for those who prefer a challenge. Routes are frequently resetted and harnesses are provided for free. They also offer a 2-hour certification course on belaying techniques and important safety skills so you can belay independently.
